WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

Actually, it's what I do. At this moment, there's only one full-time person at NIU Weather, and that's me, Gilbert Sebenste. Officially, I am the staff meteorologist. But I do a lot more than that. I am:

Energy market analyst/forecaster
Severe weather safety specialist
System administrator
Webmaster
Programmer (not a good one, but I'm learning)
Data administrator
Storm spotter/chaser (whenever they threaten campus, and also recreationally!)
And of course, short term/medium range/long term forecaster/weather analyst.

That generally keeps me busy during the day! During a winter storm, I am usually providing updates every 1-3 hours to campus officials. And during the spring, special reports are given as needed when threats of flooding or other severe weather arise.
